Christoher Cullen est Directeur émérite du Needham Research Institute, Cambridge, Professeur honoraire émérite d'histoire de sciences, des techniques et de la médecine en Asie orientale à l'Université de Cambridge, et Fellow émérite de Darwin College, Cambridge.

Il a dirigé la série Science and Civilisation in China, publiée par Cambridge University Press pendant vingt ans. Il continue à dirger la collection "Needham Research Institute Studies Series" publiée par Routledge Curzon.
